our friend, the semi-colon 0
I’ve been researching powerpoint templates to engage different stakeholder audiences at the University where I work this upcoming year. I am sure I will go with a Jeopardy game template (picture this: the Presidents’ Executive Council in a battle of wits over privacy and records management!) but that’s not why I’m writing today. In looking over different templates that educators use, I found this gem.
Ostensibly, its title caught me: “Our friend, the semi-colon”. And my first thought was, why do we try to engage kids with such non-sensical juxtapositions? If you are in my age-group you might recall the commercial from the late 70s by the master jingoists Bob Dorough and Jack Sheldon:
So I clicked on it to see how they approached the topic. I strongly recommend that you check it out. Not only does it show an innovative powerpoint template but it does a good job summarizing a really awful subject. I studied English Lit at university and, while TA’s can mark papers (i.e. why something is wrong), they do a piss-poor job of explaining how to correct it.
Good powerpoint idea.
