Google Helps Reveal the Deep web  0

Posted on April 30th, 2007. About web 2.0.

some nice news: Google has initated a project with some American state governments to gain access to their databases. since search engines don’t “type” in terms in databases, they usually can’t access the info inside (hence the term “deep web”). to get around this, google will gain access by a “sitemap” page where database links lie and can follow.

hopeful and let’s see if it brings more information to the forefront.

‘Speare (i.e. Shakespeare) video game to improve literacy  0

Posted on April 24th, 2007. About curios & sundry.

The University of Guelph English professor who developed ‘Speare has just launched this new innovative game online.

“The first of its kind, ’Speare raises the bar on Flash technology and is a pioneer in educational gaming. It was designed to teach students about literacy within a familiar arcade environment, using cutting-edge technology to create a highly interactive educational tool.

“‘Kids love this game, and when we tested it, we found that literacy scores increased by an amazing 72 per cent after just one hour of game play,” said Daniel Fishlin, who created the video game with the Canadian Adaptations of Shakespeare Project (CASP) team.

“Imagine the possibilities considering statistics show the average young person spends six hours or more playing video games each week.”
