How to fix Canada - On the brink

According to Maclean’s, Spain wants Canada’s spot on the G8. According to Maclean’s, Canada is “on the brink”.

Should we care?

You decide.

Interesting article. I started reading it at first with a bit of hostility… I’m always suspicious of people playing the “we’re losing” card to support change in policy.

But after reading the whole thing, it doesn’t seem so extreme as it first reads. It is madness that so much trade is with the paranoid americans in such a big world, that Canada is just pissing it’s resources into a global economy to stay rich, that Canadians could have much more free time and be much more productive if they worked more like their very culturally similar Northern European cousins.

I don’t really believe that Canada is in much danger of anything. All the same, it’s no reason to sit back and get fat on the doughnuts. Maybe it would be healthy for Canada to try for the Silver Medal instead of the Bronze, hehe!

This stuff about stopping people from retiring is true madness. In Germany they’ve extended the retiring age to 67 I believe… (Mind you, Germans have some ridiculous number like 8 weeks vacation a year…)

I don’t get it. All the young people want jobs, and all the Governments and companies want to keep the old-people, the expensive people, the un-current people working. Ah well, I guess we can’t afford to pay for their pensions, so whatever.
