Dr. Strangekinky; or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the mob  0

mikado

actually, I never saw commericals like these when I was in Japan.

The way people talk to me about it, you’d think Japan was the kinkiest place on the planet based on its reputation. I find I spend a lot of time telling people it is not all like that. Sers’ly–it is not as if the biggest porn producing culture in the world is white and English. Of course not. Nothing like that, for sure…

My good friend sent me this link and it is pretty remarkable: the Lyrebird can imitate any sound! That includes a camera click, a chain saw, and a zoom lens. LOL.

The Visual Dictionary - a visual exploration of words in the real world.  0

good idea, bad application: The Visual Dictionary - a visual exploration of words in the real world.

this is just pictures of words. how utterly stupid.

and yet–it inspired me to think of an utterly brilliant idea: a live visual dictionary. these are invaluable tools for learners of second languages. and on the net, you could search them so much quicker than a traditional index at the back of a book.

hmmm…and with netizen’s help, it could become a component of wikipedia–with an entry, comes a picture.

I am not be facetious either: there are so many architecture words that are difficult to name; so many tools, kitchen utensils, hobby apparatus that you have to be an afficionado to know about let alone name/pronounce/spell properly.

sigh.

maybe in a parallel universe.

Ordinarily I keep my blog posts limited to links or something relevant to the ‘Net. I don’t use it as a personal journal or anything. My life just is not that interesting. Nor am I inclined to be self-reflective in a public sphere.

But one thing I can say is…goddam, I love whiskey.
