Domesday Book: Britain’s finest treasure  0

Nice interactive history of the Domesday Book.

The Domesday book is William the Conquerer’s “census” when he conquered England (in order to tax people properly he needed to know who owned what and how much it was worth). It is thought that the origin of the word (Old Middle English for “doomsday”) derives from the fact it judged everyone indiscriminately–as the end of time.

still survives to this day because it was written on parchment. put that in your digital pipe and smoke it for a thousand years.

I doubt I agree with this article (haven’t read it in full) but sure think the title is catchy: DIGITAL MAOISM The Hazards of the New Online Collectivism by Jaron Lanier.

Israel targets archives  0

Apparently–and who can say with certainty in these times of “he says, she says”–Israel has targeted administrative records for destruction in Nablus. To the point where, once the bombing had been done, tanks rolled over the filing cabinets to ensure the records were destroyed.

history and archives gone. is that not historical genocide? or should we rename that to reflect more accurately the act of wiping out records and memory: memocide?
