first wiki 0
Successfully installed and setup my first wiki. This was a minor marvel since I am apparently getting better at using MySQL. It isn’t that difficult, admittedly, but compared to the first time I had to do it, my understanding has increased. The first time was when I wanted to generate random quotes across my webpage. The second time was when I had to set up this blog. And now the third time was to set up my wiki. I won’t link to the wiki until I figure out what I want to do with it. But already I am feeling as though it may solve the web problem I have had since the Fall. At the time I had a vision for how I wanted my site but CSS tabs does not allow what I wanted to do with it. Note that wikis also use CSS tabs and more or less the thin gray margin lines I used for my own research website (never launched publically but I did show a few folks privately). Once the article gets published I’ll put it up.
So, yeah, wikis: what wonderful things! For now, I am using MediaWiki. I will try out Python Wiki next to see if it is any easier for users to edit. If so, I may go with it. If not, maybe I should try some more. I am enjoying this. heh.
Oh yeah: in case you want to run a wiki, their are free hosting services just as blogger.com hosts free blogs. JotSpot is as good as any of them. Probably has ads in the right margin but it doesn’t look that bad.
